We usually schedule appointments faster than patients can on their own. Most patients in Los Angeles, CA complete their procedure within a few weeks of submitting the forms.

How should I prepare for my procedure?
Preparation may vary slightly depending on the instructions provided by your doctor, but in most cases, no extensive preparation like bowel prep is needed for an upper endoscopy. Your doctor will give you specific instructions on fasting and any medication adjustments.

What should I bring to my appointment?
Arrive with your ID, insurance information, and any requested paperwork. For comfort, consider bringing socks, as procedure rooms can be cool. Leave personal valuables at home.

What happens during the upper endoscopy?
You’ll meet your medical team, including your doctor and anesthetist, in the procedure room. After sedation, your doctor will use an endoscope to view your upper digestive tract. The procedure typically takes 15-30 minutes.

What happens after the procedure?
You’ll be taken to a recovery area to wake up from sedation, which takes about 20-30 minutes. The team will review the results with you before you head home. Most patients resume normal activities the next day.

When will I get my results?
If abnormal areas are found and biopsies are taken, your doctor will send them for analysis. Results typically come back within a few days, and your doctor will schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss the findings. The cost of your upper endoscopy includes all results and analysis.

Will I need another upper endoscopy?
Your follow-up depends on the results. If abnormalities are found, another upper endoscopy may be recommended in the future based on your medical history and symptoms. If no concerning findings are discovered, a repeat procedure may not be necessary for several years.
